Session 1: Introduction to Canadian Banking
Overview of the Canadian banking system and common financial products.
The Financial Literacy & Integration Program (FLIP) was created to address a recurring issue within our communities: many individuals are not lacking ambition — they are lacking access to clear, reliable information.
Too often, people simply do not know where to acquire the right financial knowledge, how to navigate Canadian systems, or who to turn to for guidance. Whether arriving in a new country or preparing to rebuild life after institutional involvement, the absence of accessible, trustworthy information creates long-term financial vulnerability.
FLIP exists to close that gap.
Flow Management recognized that financial education is often fragmented, overly technical, or inaccessible to those who need it most. Many community members face:
- Unfamiliar financial systems
- Language barriers
- Limited generational financial knowledge
- Difficulty accessing trusted guidance
- Transitions that disrupt financial stability
FLIP was intentionally designed as a structured, supportive program that simplifies complex systems and provides step-by-step financial and life-skills education in a safe, small-group setting.
Services are offered in English and French to ensure accessibility for diverse communities.
FLIP is facilitated by individuals who bring lived experience and deep community understanding. Many of those delivering programming have personally navigated:
- Immigration and credential barriers
- Financial hardship
- Career rebuilding
- Community reintegration challenges
This lived insight strengthens the program's relevance, empathy, and practical application. Participants are not just learning theory — they are learning from individuals who understand the realities they face.
Economic empowerment is foundational to long-term stability. Financial literacy connects directly to:
- Reduced financial stress
- Increased independence
- Improved employment readiness
- Stronger household stability
- Greater long-term economic mobility
FLIP is not just about knowledge — it is about practical tools that participants can apply immediately.
To ensure clarity and specialized support, FLIP operates through two separate streams:
- Newcomers / Recent Immigrants / Refugees
- Reintegration (Correctional, Halfway Houses, Group Homes)
Each stream addresses specific transition challenges while maintaining a shared focus: building financial confidence and long-term stability.
